What kind of 6x6? Do you have a link or are you referring to the Gator with the diesel engine they use on Golf Courses that goes about 6 mph? 6mph is a hard sell for anybody.

I like the idea of paper mache' and waterproofing as a body material. Hilarious, cheap and would work well enough until you crash. I happen to think a slightly taller buggy or a fully stripped out and cross braced subcompact, like a Geo Metro for example, would be great ultralight cars. People who can TIG weld (like me) might have a future modding frames from the mono-cocque type used today into a race frame that lets you bolt on weather panels for added lightness. There are scooters with weather shells, but they're kinda lame... a lot lame. Better off with a Mini-truck.

When I say 6x6 I mean a heavy piece of deminsional lumber as a center type of frame as opposed to a perimeter type frame

6x6 LUMBER, ah.

Won't that twist apart? Lumber grows in spirals. They do make wood I-beams using plywood and glue. However, steel is pretty easy to weld and once heat treated is very strong. Or skip the heat treating and just design appropriately. Its also lighter than a 12 foot 6x6. Do you have a link to an example? Considering you're an auto mechanic it WOULD be hilarious if you went and built this. Put it in the local parades and post some youtube videos.
